Miss South Carolina vs. YouTube
For those of you who either watch the Miss Teen USA pageant or who simply watch the evening news: you have probably already seen this, Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina answers a question:
I’m not posting this to be mean-spirited. I know that the contestant, Lauren Upton, is a young 18 year old kid who had every right to be nervous; standing on stage in front of hundreds of people and in front of cameras broadcasting to, er, to however many people actually watch something called “Miss Teen USA”. If you would like to see me ramble, throwing me onto a stage would be a good way to do it.
What was far more funny and enjoyable were the YouTube video responses to these clips, which have received many millions of views at this point. Predictably, many of the best responses came from overseas.
One of YouTube’s most brilliant stars, Paperlilies, posted her own rendition of the event, and without even a hint of her own British accent, Maps- Miss West Carolina speaks out:
It looks like Paperlilies had a lot of fun Becoming Miss West Carolina.
With Upton commenting upon South African education, it would have been shocking if khayav had not posted a response: Miss Teen South Carolina: A South African Responds:
khayav’s video commentary, btw: “I know she’s a kid. I also know that she was probably nervous. But I can’t resist this.” Those are my same sentiments regarding this episode of YouTube Tuesday.
Another fun, non-”U.S. American” response came from Josh Rimer in “the Canada”: Josh Rimer interviews Miss. Teen South Carolina. Yet another response came from a “Canadian Canadian”, Sarah Crosbie “crosbiemania” in her “Miss Teen Canada Canada TV meltdown“.
My favorite American response came from Sean O’Donnell, “sodj1“:
“…white collar map-havers […] jerks!” Hehe, loved it.
O’Donnell has a blog, btw. (I love pingbacks.)
Cheers.
P.S. Hold the presses! I just ran into one other vid worth showing here, a brilliant study in sarcasm from new YouTuber “dagreen2005“: Re: Miss Teen South Carolina:

Wait, stop the presses again! Now this, for a Star Trekkie like me, is brilliant: YTMND - The Young Ensign’s Suggestion
