A Philly ‘Borough Blog
Welcome to Philadelphia, The City That Slaps You Back.
Please forgive my little dig at Philadelphia’s (current? former?) official slogan, “The City That Loves You Back”, and welcome to my new blog category:
Philly ‘Borough
If you’re thinking that I’m using the word “borough” to incorrectly describe the legal status of Philadelphia, then you have failed to notice the apostrophe.
In fact, the ‘borough in question is my hometown of Roxborough. And if you believe I am using the word “hometown” to incorrectly describe the legal status of my neighborhood, er, well, you would be right.
I found myself encouraged to start this category by an article in the local paper, The Review. The article talked about several local bloggers from Our Town, including one I was already familiar with: Citizen Mom, the web log of Amy Z. Quinn.
Quinn is a truly excellent blogger and online author; she covers it all, from film and fashion to pop culture and politics. She also posts regularly, something I am still having a hard time doing.
Everyone should definitely check her out, (including you, mom).
I’m just now skimming over the other blogs that the article mentions. I’ll list them here for your viewing pleasure:

- Sophia is a very cute baby.

- I find it really funny that a 21 year old can already be so nostalgic for the past.

That last link is to a now defunct blog that was created by Donna Persico in memory of Kayla Peter, a 15 year old girl who was killed in a hit and run incident which still inflames local passions. Rest in peace, Kayla.
When I remember to do so, I will most likely spill my mind regarding Roxborough, Manayunk, and Philadelphia in general on Wednesdays, (seeing The Review on my doorstep should make for an excellent mnemonic).
Cheers, Philly. ![]()
